Drugs, drink and EDP

We work with adults and young people, their families and their communities, to prevent, reduce and address the harm done by the misuse of illegal drugs and alcohol. We provide a wide range of services across Devon including Exeter, East and Mid Devon, North and South Devon and the three Devon prisons, HMP Exeter, HMP Channings Wood and HMP Dartmoor.

The range of job roles on offer, therefore, is varied and exciting. As the organisation is constantly growing, jobs may also change and new opportunities are presented. You can choose to work in a client-facing role, or behind the scenes in support services.   Whatever their job role, every member of our team works to our common vision and organisational values.

Wherever your skills and experience lie, we would like to hear from you. Read on to find out about the range of jobs on offer at EDP, the benefits of working for us and to see our current vacancies.

Working in Client Services

These are the roles at the heart of the organisation... general and specialist drugs practitioners who provide advice, information, referrals to other agencies, assessment and care planning, structured intervention, group sessions and most of all, non-judgemental positive regard and support for people with drug and alcohol problems and those who care about them.

Employees come into these roles from a variety of backgrounds - social work, nursing, voluntary work, mental health, psychology etc. We also employ many practitioners who have themselves had problems related to drugs and alcohol in the past. Those with more experience can become senior practitioners, experts who supervise colleagues and work with the most challenging cases. Occasionally we have a vacancy for a Head of Service or a Director, both key roles, demanding exceptional combinations of practice knowledge and experience with insightful and pragmatic leadership, ensuring the performance of our organisation exceeds expectations of both service users and commissioners.

Working in Support Services

The behind-the-scenes roles providing the finance, information technology, human resources and administrative support to the whole organisation. There are general administrative roles in all our service areas and our Exeter-based head office houses our finance, IT and HR specialists. The team is professional, action oriented and resourceful and focussed on constantly improving the levels of internal customer service on offer to colleagues.

Occasionally there are management or director vacancies, both key roles, demanding exceptional combinations of technical knowledge and experience with insightful and pragmatic leadership, ensuring the framework exists to support client service colleagues in exceeding expectations of both service users and commissioners.

Benefits

Salaries are competitive within the sector, using the NJC scales with annual increments and cost of living pay reviews. Travel and other expenses are reimbursed. All employees are paid monthly on the last working day of the month.

We offer a 35 hour working week with 25 days annual leave per annum, rising to 30 days by one day per year, plus 8 Bank Holidays per year. We offer a 5% contributory pension scheme and excellent sickness and maternity pay, as well as child care vouchers. Other benefits include flexible working in many posts, career progression and promotion opportunities.

EDP is committed to the competency and development of its' workforce and as such provides a structured induction and probation process, regular supervision, assessment of competence and an annual appraisal, resulting in individual learning plans. Training and development lives and breathes in this organisation and many of our staff are in post as a result of internal promotions.

We are a progressive, considerate and responsible employer and welcome applications for flexible working and job sharing from all staff. Each application is assessed on its' own merits and balanced against the needs of the organisation in an endeavour to achieve a "win win" situation for the employees involved.

EDP understands that every person is unique and brings to their workplace a vast array of values, beliefs, skills, knowledge and experience. We are committed to empowering employees to celebrate and utilise this and aspire to the diversity of our workforce being an accurate representation of both our service area and our service users. Applications from ex-service users are particularly welcome.

Living and working in Devon

Devon, with its beaches, moorland and countryside, was voted top county in England by Country Life magazine. There are good road and rail links with the rest of the UK and beyond. Devon is also an increasingly attractive place for companies to do business; with a growing number of major organisations, for example, the Met Office, choosing to relocate to Exeter.

Devon caters for a huge range of outdoor pursuits including surfing, sailing, climbing, cycling and hiking. Dartmoor and South Devon's sandy beaches are within easy reach. It therefore offers the best of both worlds: an economically prosperous regional capital with easy access to London and other major cities but enjoying the tranquillity and quality of life of an idyllic rural setting.

EDP - Drug and Alcohol Services is a vibrant, forward thinking professional organisation. We are always keen to hear from individuals who are committed to making a difference. If the right job for you isn't advertised yet – send us your cv and we'll update you personally whenever vacancies with us arise.

We will be recruiting on line once we launch the next phase of our website. In the meanwhile, to find out what vacancies are currently on offer at EDP, please email recruitment@edp.org.uk or ring 01392 666732.
